No this is not a political post. Just lettin' you know that instead of spending my on-line time reading mostly knitting blogs and forums I seem to be spending my on-line time surfing and reading mostly political blogs. It's addicting! At least I can still knit and read.
It's amazing how your feelings about a piece of knitting can change when you fix a problem. I mentioned in my last post about how I frogged several rows because I'd figured out that I'd crossed a cable wrong. It should have been a left cross (hold the cable needle behind the work) instead of a right cross (hold the cable needle in front of the work) [I think]. Whatever, it's fixed now and my notes have been updated.
Anyway, I set the piece down with the cabled crossed wrong just discouraged with it. I didn't want to knit on it any more even though I'd just started it. I didn't like how it looked and at the time, didn't realized that I'd screwed up the cable cross. I went to bed and spent most of that day convincing myself that I should really pick it up again and just get the damn thing knit since I'd obviously fallen out of love with it.
Well, now that I fixed the cable cross and am several rounds and cables crosses past that, as you can see, I like my hat again. The cables still don't show up all they well but I know they're there and I like 'em. Every time I take my hat off or put it on I can take a few moments and admire my lovely cables.
The hat's about just under five inches long now with six cable crosses. I've got about four more inches to go before the top of hat decreases. I'm even liking the oranges. I think that's because it's all different oranges. It kind of reminds me of the bands of colors you see in rocks. Since Sweetie's not likin' the colors for himself I'll be able to do a pair of lovely matching socks for myself.
Things are also rolling along on the third Four of a Kind Socks. The leg is done as is the heel flap in (light pearl gray) and I'm almost done with the fuchsia heel turn. It seems like once I'm knitting on the foot, the sock is done in no time. I suppose I should be figuring out what the final sock will look like. What ribbing and what stripe.
When we were in Kansas City the other day, I picked up two small bottles of the citrus Soak Wash. I'm going to take a few more photos of the Fern Lace Wrap in the next day or so and send it off to the recipient with a bottle of Soak, a ball band from the yarn and some care instructions.

Desiderata
Go placidly amidst the noise and haste
and remember what peace there may be in silence
As far as possible without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others;
even the dull and ignorant, for they too have their story
Avoid loud and aggressive persons for they are vexatious to the spirit
If you compare yourself with others you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble,
for it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time
Exercise caution in your business life for everywhere there is trickery
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism
Be yourself
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings;
many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars.
You have a right to be here
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be
And whatever your labours and aspirations, keep peace in your soul
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world
Be cheerful
Strive to be happy.
